It appears that the Georgia Tech football program has found its’ second quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class.

The Georgia Tech football team earned its’ ninth commitment in the 2019 recruiting class on Friday. That commitment was from Alpharetta, Georgia native and dual threat quarterback Jordan Yates.

A three-star recruit, Yates is ranked by 247Sports as the 875th best player in the country and the 21st best dual threat quarterback in the country. In terms of the state of Georgia, Yates ranks as the 96th best prospect.

Prior to his commitment, Yates held 14 scholarship offers according to his 247Sports profile but the Jackets were the biggest offer for him by far. They were the only power 5 offer that he possessed according to his profile. His primary recruiter was Craig Candento, the Yellow Jackets current quarterbacks coach.

At 6-foot-1 and 186-pounds, Yates is on the smaller size but has shown great athleticism in his highlight tapes on HUDL. According to 247Sports, Yates runs a 4.61 forty-yard dash to go along with 35” vertical which shows that there is some explosion in Yates’ play.

The Jackets earlier this week took a commitment from relative unknown, Demetris Knight. With the program losing Jay Jones and Matthew Jordan this past offseason, the Jackets were willing to take two quarterbacks this cycle.

Yates despite a lack of offer was one of the highest rated dual threat quarterbacks who were uncommitted. The public interest be the two was either very limited or none at all. Ultimately, it didn’t  matter as Yates’ recruitment culminated on Friday with his commitment.

Going forward, Yates commitment almost certainly shutout the remaining quarterbacks that were on the Jackets board. They will most likely remain in contact with a few chosen quarterbacks in case Knight or Yates decommit but nothing more should be expected.

Off the recruiting trail, Georgia Tech will take the field on September 1st against Alcorn State to open their 2018 season.
