A pair of team captains will represent the Yellow Jackets at the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference Kickoff event this month.

This year’s Atlantic Coast Conference Football Kickoff is set for July 18-19, and Georgia Tech will sent a pair of senior team captains to the event in Charlotte.

Quarterback TaQuon Marshall and linebacker Brant Mitchell will represent the the Yellow Jackets. Marshall is in his second-straight year as a team captain, while Mitchell is a newcomer to the honor.

As a junior, Marshall started all 11 games for Georgia Tech in 2017, accounting for 1,146 rushing and 927 passing while racking up 27 total touchdowns in the process. Though he was among the offensive leaders in the ACC, the Jackets only managed five wins, including close losses to Tennessee, Miami and Virginia and a cancelled game with Central Florida.

Mitchell missed a considerable amount of playing time last season due to injury, but has 25 starts in 34 games in his time at Tech and has 158 total tackles and four picks in his career.

Including Marshall, the Yellow Jackets have only had eight players named football team captain in multiple seasons. The most recent of those were fellow duel-threat quarterbacks Josh Nesbitt and Justin Thomas.

Coastal Division teams are scheduled take part in the annual ACC Kickoff event on Tuesday, July 18, while Atlantic teams will appear the next day. This year’s event features a total of 28 student athletes from 14 member institutions. This is the first appearance for both Marshall and Mitchell at the kickoff event.

Georgia Tech kicks off the 2018 football season versus FCS Alcorn State on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Bobby Dodd Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
