Georgia Tech Football Recruiting: DT Jamal Camp commits to Yellow Jackets
Just a day after receiving an offer from Georgia Tech, 2019 DT Jamal Camp became the 12th member of the Jackets 2019 recruiting class.
Just a single day after receiving an offer from Georgia Tech, 2019 DT Jamal Camp decided that Tech was the place he wants to be as he announced his commitment on Twitter, Wednesday. The decision isn’t shocking as the South Forsythe defensive tackle is the younger brother of Tech wide receiver Jalen Camp, meaning he’s already heavily familiar with what the campus and program has to offer. The quick commitment makes it seem that the younger Camp was patiently waiting for the Tech offer to come.
The 6-foot-3, 275-pound defensive lineman is the 12th commitment of the 2019 recruiting class and the second in two days. He joins offensive lineman Joshua Black, who flipped his commitment to the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday after being committed to Western Kentucky since April.
In addition to his offer from Tech, Black holds several other offers including one from Tennessee. The Volunteers appeared to be the leaders in his recruitment prior to receiving his offer from Tech on Tuesday.
247Sport’s composite rankings list Camp as a three-star recruit with a rating of .8366. They rank him as a top 1,300 player nationally and the 127th best player in Georgia. He’s the 88th ranked defensive tackle in the nation as well.
Camp is the first defensive line commit of the 2019 recruiting class for the Jackets. It appears that they will take just him at defensive tackle this cycle unless a player they really like wants to join. The coaching staff took two defensive tackles last cycle in T.K Chimedza and Austin Smith.
Overall, the Jackets 2019 recruiting class now sits 53rd nationally and 11th in the ACC per 247Sports.
