Four-star point guard Boogie Ellis released his top-8 that included Georgia Tech on Tuesday afternoon.

One of the top players in the country and one of the country’s top ten point guards has narrowed list of schools down to an “elite eight”. Among those eight programs is Georgia Tech, the lone ACC school on the list of four-star Boogie Ellis. The Yellow Jackets are also the furthest program from Ellis’s home in San Diego and while they got into the top eight, it will be interesting to see if the distance becomes a bigger part of his recruitment going forward.

That being said, the remainder of Ellis’s list includes Arizona, Gonzaga, Memphis, Oklahoma, Oregon, San Diego State, and USC. A list full of programs mostly from west of the Mississippi does not bode well for the chances for the Yellow Jackets down the road but all that matters is that they got to this point, now they have to find a way to land Ellis.

Ellis according to 247Sports is the 81st best player in the 2019 recruiting class and the sixth best point guard in the country, and the ninth best player in the state of California. It is worth noting that the country’s fifth best point guard, De’Vion Harmon is currently committed to Oklahoma, one of Ellis’s final eight.

Currently, the Yellow Jackets don’t have any commitments in the 2019 recruiting class but are going hard after most of the country’s top recruits. The same can be said for the past few years under Josh Pastner and while the program has made progress in getting in recruit’s top choices, they have yet to land a five-star prospect. Ellis won’t be that five-star either but Ellis does have game changing abilities.

Ellis has seen his stock rise over the last few months after putting together an impressive junior season and summer. The Yellow Jackets originally offered Ellis back in late May but did get a chance to see him up close and personal when he played at this year’s Peach Jam in South Carolina.
