With just three days to go until the start of the 2018 season, we have a general idea of who will be out for Saturday’s season opener against Alcorn State.

Of the injuries we know so far this week, it seems that everybody we know is injured will be out for Georgia Tech season opener on Saturday against Alcorn State. The Jackets knowing that they should be fine against Alcorn State are going to play it safe with injuries most likely this week and try not to cause further damage to those already injured. Come Saturday, more players may be added to the injury report but these are the players that we know already will be out of action.

Going forward we will also provide an injury report for Georgia Tech’s opponents but finding injury information on Alcorn State was difficult and without being able to give our readers the correct information, we decided to just go with the Yellow Jackets for this week.

Ol Kenny Cooper – Foot:

Cooper was out for all of fall camp with a foot injury that was suffered in the spring. While he did return to practice this week, the plan is for him to be ready to go for the Jackets week two game against South Florida.

QB Lucas Johnson – Leg:

We never got word of what Johnson’s exact injury was but we know it pertained to his leg. We also now that the sophomore quarterback also had surgery on the leg and will be out for the season.

WR Adonicas Sanders – Collarbone:

Sanders broke his collarbone a few weeks ago and can take anywhere usually from 4-8 weeks to heal which means October or November is a possibility for Sanders. Sanders could potentially redshirt this season and end up getting a medical hardship out of it. Depending on the severity of the injury, Sanders could play the tail end of the season if he’s deemed safe to play.

DB Lamont Simmons – Hamstring:

Simmons went down with a hamstring injury recently and one would think he would have to be out for a few weeks. Hamstring injuries are hard to manage and are usually easily re-aggravated which means it won’t be surprising if we don’t see Simmons until possibly the end of September or early October.

LB Bruce Jordan-Swilling – ?:

Bruce Jordan-Swilling appears to be out for Saturday afternoon’s season opener against Alcorn State. The sophomore linebacker injured himself on a motorized scooter, talk about an embarrassing injury. That being said, Jordan-Swilling could still play as Paul Johnson didn’t fully rule it out he simply stated “I don’t think he’ll play”. Luckily for the Yellow Jackets, Alcorn State is probably an opponent they can live without having Jordan-Swilling for.

Georgia Tech takes on Alcorn State at noon on Saturday as they look to open their 2018 season with a 1-0 record.
