ACC Football: A look around the conference for week one
The college football season is off and running for 2018 and includes a nice week one schedule including several games that include ACC opponents.
In this weekly piece we will take a look around the ACC and provide our thoughts on that week’s schedule for the ACC. The post will try to be one of our funner posts throughout the week filled with sarcasm and humor.
Thursday:
Wake Forest 23 – Tulane 17:
We’d be neglecting Wake Forest if we didn’t mention their overtime win over Tulane on Thursday night. It was a little too close for the Demon Deacons liking but they ultimately came out with a 23-17 victory on Thursday night.
Friday:
Syracuse at Western Michigan – 6 pm:
The Orange start their season off with what will be a challenge for their program. They travel to Western Michigan for a 6 pm kickoff on Friday night. Will the Orange start the season off right or will they stumble out of the gate?
Army at Duke – 7 pm:
An interesting matchup to say the least, Army has been quite a different football team over the last two years that the nation has been use to in recent memory. Duke will be challenged on Friday night to say the least.

James Madison at NC Sate – 12 pm:
Don’t think that this will be an easy game for NC State. James Madison is one of the top FCS programs in the country and is always a threat to beat an FBS opponent including a 21-16 victory over Virginia Tech in 2010. That being said, NC State should probably be okay against the Dukes.
Furman at #2 Clemson – 12:20 pm:
If this game is even close, then something went terribly wrong for Clemson and they should probably just cancel their season.
UMass at Boston College – 1:00 pm:
UMass won their season opener in week 0 but can they start the season 2-0 and be a third of the way towards making a bowl game? Chances are no but this could turn into interesting battle, A.J Dillon is enough of a reason to just check in on this game anyways.
Albany at Pittsburgh – 3:30 pm:
Pittsburgh isn’t known for being the fastest starting team so this could turn out to be a close game. That being said, this game really doesn’t peak any interest in any aspect.
North Carolina at Cal – 4:00 pm:
I mean, if you need some mid-afternoon football this could be an option but there are definitely better options to watch. Two middle of the pack power five programs facing off in week one should mean some interesting points but could also mean that it could turn into an unbearable game pretty quickly.
Richmond at Virginia – 6:00 pm:
Out of all the ACC vs FCS opponent games on the week one slate, this is probably your best chance for an upset. Richmond is a strong FCS program overall and could definitely give Virginia a scare at the least.
Louisville at #1 Alabama – 8:00 pm:
This is a pretty game for Louisville as it’s their first in the post Lamar Jackson era. If the Cards can hang with Alabama, then they will probably be pretty good this season. That being said, this feels like a blow out waiting to happen.
Sunday:
#8 Miami at #25 LSU – 7:30 pm:
A lot of story lines in this matchup on Sunday night… Was Miami last season a fluke? Will LSU take a step forward in 2018? Is Ed Orgeron a good coach? The answer to two of these questions is probably.
