B-Backs: B+

As we wrote earlier, starting b-back KirVonte Benson went down with an injury in Saturday’s game against the Bulls and will now be out for the season. You can read that full report here.

That being said, before going down with his injury, Benson was having a strong start on the ground, picking up 41-yards on just five carries. The redshirt junior looked to be on pace to have quite the day on the ground but now will have to wait until next season to make an impact once again.

After Benson went down with an injury, redshirt freshman Jordan Mason took over as the primary b-back and had 13 carries on the day. With those 13 carries, Mason rushed for 95-yards including a career high 46-yard run. Sophomore b-back Jerry Howard has just one carry on Saturday against the Bulls going for a single yard.

As a collective unit, it was a productive day for the Jackets’ b-backs as they had 137 total rushing yards on 19 carries, an average of 7.2 yards per carry. That being said, both Jordan Mason and Jerry Howard will be tested going forward as they look to replace Benson who rushed for over 1,000-yards last season.
