#4: Clemson’s special teams vs Georgia Tech’s special teams

Neither team’s special teams this year have been special as Clemson’s special teams efficiency rating per ESPN’s FPI is 53rd in the country. But compared to the Yellow Jackets special teams efficiency, the Tigers might as well be tops in the country. According to ESPN’s FPI for Georgia Tech, the Jackets special teams efficiency is 125th in the country which makes them the sixth worst special teams team in the country entering Saturday.

That being said, with Georgia Tech’s struggles, the Yellow Jackets will need a quick fix for Saturday afternoon. The Clemson special teams punt and kick return games are averaging 16.3 and 29.5 yards respectively. Any miscues on a kickoff or punt Saturday, could easily result in six for the Tigers.

The Tigers kicking game this year hasn’t been tremendous as they’re 3-for-5 on field goal attempts. They are 15 for 15 however in extra point conversions. Tigers punter, Will Spiers is averaging 38.2 yards per punt so far this season.

We all know about the Yellow Jackets special teams performance so far this season. They’ve allowed two kickoff returns for a touchdown, inconsistencies in the kicking game. Though one bright spot is that Pressley Harvin III is without a doubt one of the best punters in the country and should come around sooner than later.
