#5: Paul Johnson vs Brent Venables

This may be cheating but what the heck…Paul Johnson vs Brent Venables is without a doubt the biggest matchup on Saturday. Johnson is known for being a great play caller despite not using a play sheet and going with his gut instinct. A triple-option based offense is one of the hardest offenses in football to stop and when you add in a play caller like Paul Johnson it gets even harder.

That being said, there is one man who can solve the triple option and that’s Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables. One of the brightest defensive minds in the country, when the Tigers take on the Yellow Jackets, Venables seems to always be one step ahead of Paul Johnson which may sound crazy to say but is honestly true.

On Saturday, if the Jackets are going to have offensive success, Johnson is going to have to learn a few new tricks. The Jackets won’t be able to win with their normal play calling, Johnson will need to think outside the box and order up some trickery. If the Jackets run their normal offense, this game will be no contest as long as Brent Venables is calling the defensive plays for the Tigers.
