Walk-on sophomore Evan Jester didn’t see much time last season but could be a valuable piece down the road for the Yellow Jackets.

The life of a walk-on college athlete is nowhere close to being easy. For the most part, you’re expected to show up to practice, play against the first-teamers, and patiently wait for the few minutes of game time you may see any given season. In some cases, however, walk-ons can end up turning into stars. For the Yellow Jackets, one of those walk-ons hoping to find his role on the team is sophomore forward Evan Jester.

A Sandy Creek high school alum, Jester decided to walk-on at Georgia Tech despite having two scholarship offers at the least from Alcorn State and Moorhead State. The chance to play big-time college basketball was too good of an offer to pass up not to mention the elite education he would be receiving.

Last season, Jester for the Yellow Jackets appeared in three games and averaged 1.3 minutes per contest. He finished the season with one point and one rebound with both coming against Florida A&M respectively.

This upcoming season, Jester most likely won’t see a ton of playing time but if he has developed he perhaps will see some more opportunities. That being said, Jester along with the other walk-ons fill important roles on the team as they are huge when it comes to preparing for future opponents and allowing the regulars to perfect their craft.
