Georgia Tech returns to action this Thursday against Virginia Tech and Vegas likes the Hokies early on as the Jackets are five-point underdogs.

The bye week has come and gone uneventfully and Georgia Tech football is ready to get back on the field.

ThisThursday night, the Yellow Jackets will travel to Blacksburg, Virginia to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies, owner of 4-2 overall record and a conference record of 3-0. The Yellow Jackets, on the other hand, enter the game with a 3-4 record and a 1-3 record in conference play, the lone win coming against Louisville three weeks ago.

That all being said, Vegas early on liked the Hokies as the Jackets opened as a five-point underdog to the Hokies according to Oddshark.  It wouldn’t stay there for long though as the line quickly moved in favor of the Yellow Jackets as the line is now a -3.5 in favor of the Hokies. When considering that home-field is usually worth three-points, it truly makes the contest a toss-up but with Virginia Tech being the slimmest of favorites.

Oddshark, however, does believe the Yellow Jackets will not only cover the spread against the Hokies but also pull out the victory.

Thursday night’s game could have massive implications for the rest of the season for both programs. The Yellow Jackets could fall to 3-5 on the season with a loss, making it even harder to make a bowl game this season while Virginia Tech will look to keep their ACC Coastal division lead. It is also the beginning of a five-game stretch for Paul Johnson that may be the most important in his Tech tenure.

The good news for the Yellow Jackets is that they have defeated the Hokies each of the last two seasons including upsetting the Hokies in Blacksburg 30-20 in 2016. But with the current state of the program, it’s hard to see the Yellow Jackets put together a full game that it would take to defeat the Hokies on Thursday night but ultimately only time will tell.

Thursday night’s game is set to kickoff at 7:30 pm and will be televised on ESPN.
