Yellow Jackets News: Former Tech star, Roman Reigns announces leukemia battle
Former Georgia Tech star football player Joseph Anoaʻi also known by his WWE ring name of Roman Reigns announced that his leukemia has returned and will be stepping away from wrestling.
For Joseph Anoaʻi or as many know him, Roman Reigns, this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw may have been the hardest episode for him to ever do. In the ring, Reign has faced many great opponents and some of the most famous wrestlers in the WWE’s history but this without a doubt will be his toughest fight yet.
The former Tech defensive end didn’t fight anybody in the ring but he announced that he is in a fight. A fight against an opponent he’s known for almost a third of his life. That opponent’s name is leukemia, cancer that Reigns has fought for 11-years of his life according to his announcement on Monday night’s episode. Reigns in the process relinquished his WWE Universal Championship.
The former All-ACC defensive tackle was a star for the Yellow Jackets, racking up 12 sacks in the 2006 season alone. Unfornutely, his football career would end just two years later after he wasn’t able to make it in the NFL or CFL. That being said, he quickly found his spot in pro wrestling and the rest is history.
Despite being away from the program over the last 12-years, Reigns has stayed connected and is a frequent visitor to Tech’s weight room when in the area. He also represented the Yellow Jackets on College Gameday last month when he was the celebrity guest picker for Ohio State vs TCU.
All of us here at Yellow Jacked Up wish him good luck in his battle with leukemia.
