Top basketball recruit Chander Lawson is expected to take an official visit to Georgia Tech according to reports.

According to the AJC’s Ken Sugiura, top basketball recruit power forward Chandler Lawson is expected to take an official visit to Georgia Tech. The 58th ranked recruit in ESPN’s top-100 has extensive ties to Georgia Tech head coach Josh Pastner which could make the Yellow Jackets the team to beat in his recruitment.

The Yellow Jackets in the 2019 recruiting class currently have one commitment from JUCO forward David Didenko. While Lawson does not currently have a 247Sports page, his ESPN profile ranks him as the 14th best power forward in the country, the 17th best player in his region and the second best player in the state of Tennessee.

The only player better in Tennessee is five-star center James Wiseman, the nation’s top player according to ESPN.

For the Yellow Jackets, Lawson presents another chance to land one of the nation’s premier recruits. Two weeks ago they missed out on four-star recruit and Georgia native Marcus Watson who ended up committing to the Oklahoma State Hokies over the Yellow Jackets. For the Yellow Jackets, the last few recruiting classes have been strong but at the same time have missed on several five-star recruits among high four-star recruits. Perhaps Lawson could help change that trend for the Yellow Jackets.

Lawson according to ESPN holds offers from Baylor, Florida, Kansas, Memphis, and Ole Miss in addition to his offer from the Yellow Jackets. The Yellow Jackets kick off their 2018-19 season on November 9th when they take on the Lamar Cardinals. You can read a full preview of the Cardinals here.
