Saturday saw the offense sputter while the defense and special teams had big days to propel the Jackets to a victory on Senior Day against Virginia.

Brant Mitchell:

Mitchell had a solid day with three tackles, but his biggest contribution came in the first quarter when he secured a sack of Virginia quarterback Bryce Perkins for a safety that proved to be one of the most crucial stops of the entire game. The defense had a tough time getting pressure on Perkins for the rest of the game which makes this play all that more special.

Juanyeh Thomas:

Following the Brant Mitchell Safety, Thomas set up as the return man for the free kick and returned said kick 77 yards for the first touchdown for Georgia Tech in the game and the only touchdown the Jackets would have in the first half. Juanyeh Thomas is a special kind of player and it isn’t hard to imagine that he will be busting big returns like that for seasons to come.

Wesley Wells:

When the walk on Freshman made his debut against Louisville and nailed his 41-yard attempt, you could feel the giant sigh of relief from the fanbase. The feeling was that, at least for the moment, we had a placekicker. Since that game, he has made all 7 of his field goal attempts and remains perfect on the year in PAT’s as well. Yesterday against Virginia he proved that he had ice running in his veins as he hit both go-ahead field goals in regulation and overtime to secure a win for the Yellow Jackets and secure a winning season. Wells has a promising career ahead of him, and while he is not Butker 2.0, he has certainly earned the right to be called Wells 1.0.

Yesterday was a nail-biter that came down to the last play of the game and Georgia tech was finally able to gut out a win in a close game. The play of the three guys I mentioned above along with the total team effort helped secure a winning season in a year that started 1-3. That is a monumental achievement for this team and as a fan, I could not be prouder. With that being said we are on to hate week. What’s the good word?
