We take a look at five takeaways from Georgia Tech basketball’s first five games of the 2018-19 season.

1) This team will struggle against quality programs

The Jackets will enter Wednesday night’s ACC/Big Ten Challenge showdown against Northwestern with a 3-1 record. It will be the second, major conference program that the Jackets will face this year, joining Tennessee. The Jackets against Tennessee struggled offensively in the 66-53 despite keeping the Volunteers offense rather quiet for the evening. Against their other four opponents, the Jackets have looked the part. While they have had struggles, they have pretty much got the job done winning three by 15+ points with the lone other being a 9-point victory.

But if the Tennessee game showed anything, it showed that when the Yellow Jackets face teams that are as talented or more talented. They will struggle. The Jackets offensive was horrendous against Tennessee’s defense and had their worst offensive shooting night since 2015. In the ACC, the Jackets will face plenty of teams that will be able to smother them offensively. This could be an overreaction but we’ll ultimately get a strong idea when the Jackets play Northwestern and St. John’s in the upcoming week.
