Game 2: 49-38 loss to South Florida

What happened:

The Jackets traveled to Tampa Bay for their first road game of the season as they faced the AAC’s South Florida Bulls. The Yellow Jackets lead 17-14 at the end of the first quarter and at one point had a 38-28 lead in the fourth quarter. However, the Bulls scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and handed the Yellow Jackets their first loss of the season despite Tech having over 600 yards of offense. The Jackets also lost b-back KirVonte Benson for the season when he tore his ACL.

In retrospect:

The Bulls got off to a hot start on the season, starting 7-0 on the season, but would struggle going down the stretch losing their last five games. The simple fact is this game should’ve been a victory for the Yellow Jackets but in reality, it didn’t hurt as much as their next loss to Pittsburgh. The Yellow Jackets offense showed in this game that they could dominate opposing defenses but the defensive struggles against USF’s speed definitely was an indication of what was to come defensively against stronger opponents.

Conclusion:

Definitely should have won but didn’t have as big as an impact as other losses. Though you can make an argument of a domino effect.
