Up-and-Comers:

Neal Brown – Troy Head Coach

Troy under Neal Brown has been a consistently good Group of 5 team over the last three seasons, with three-straight seasons of nine or more wins. Brown is still young at just 38 and is rising offensive mind in the game. Brown will get a Power 5 job shot sooner than later, could the Yellow Jackets be the one to do so?

Matt Canada – Maryland Interim Head Coach

Canada is Maryland’s interim head coach following the suspension and firing of DJ Durkin. The coach of the Terrapin’s for all 12 games this season, Canada went 5-7 but could have easily been a seven or eight-win team. While the record may not be attractive, Canada is a strong recruiter and is a great offensive mind. He’s an option that may be worth kicking the tires on at the least.

Manny Diaz – Miami Defensive Coordinator

Diaz is known for his great defenses and being a strong recruiter. While hiring Diaz would mark the end for Nate Woody, having a great defensive mind at the helm could be an interesting turn for the program to go. That being said, you’d have to wonder where he would go offensively in terms of an offensive coordinator. Diaz is worth consideration but we doubt that the Yellow Jackets turn to him.

Brent Key – Alabama Offensive Line Coach

A former Yellow Jacket, Key is among coaches who fans would enjoy seeing take over the program. Key is a strong recruiter but lacks head coaching experience at any level He did serve as UCF’s assistant head coach from 2012 to 2015 and as the Knight’s offensive coordinator for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He’s been at Alabama as their offensive line coach since 2016.

Geoff Collins – Temple Head Coach

Collins took over the Temple head coaching job from Matt Rhule but has yet to see the success that Rhule did with the Owls. Still coaching a majority of Rhule’s players, there’s still fair questions about the success he has had so far as well. He has a history with the Yellow Jackets as a grad assistant from 1999 to 2001 and as the Jackets Director of Player Personnel in 2006. Collins is an intriguing option for the Yellow Jackets.

Mike Norvell – Memphis Head Coach

Norvell is just in his third season as a head coach with the Memphis Tigers but so far Norvell is looking like a future star head coach. He’s collected a 26-12 record through his time in Memphis and is known for his great offenses. He’s also the highest paid Group of 5 coach in the country, currently making $2.6 million. It would take a sizeable increase to pull him out of Memphis if the Jackets were interested in him.

Scott Satterfield – Appalachian State Head Coach

Satterfield is one of the top rising head coaches in the FBS as he currently continues his tenure at Appalachian State. Satterfield has been responsible for taking the Mountaineers from the FCS level to the FBS level. Through App State’s first five seasons, the Mountaineers have been made a bowl game each year they’ve been eligible and have won nine or more games in four straight seasons. Current Tech defensive coordinator Nate Woody also has ties to Satterfield as Woody cae from App State last year to join the coaching staff.

Brent Venables – Clemson Defensive Coordinator

On the first page, we talked about Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliot. Now, we’re discussing Clemson’s defensive coordinator Brent Venables who looks destined to land a head coaching job sooner than later. With Venables you’re getting a strong defensive minded head coach and a hell of a recruiter. He’d be a home run hire just like Elliot but it remains to be seen if Venables would be interested in the job.
