Georgia Tech Football: Jackets headed to Detroit for Quick Lane Bowl
Georgia Tech long wait on Sunday to find out where they will play their final game of the 2018 season is over as it was announced that the Jackets will play in the Quick Lane Bowl for Paul Johnson’s final game with the program.
Despite being one of the better ACC teams ad the best ACC Coastal team since September, the Georgia Tech football team was snubbed from multiple tier-one bowl games on Sunday afternoon. But the Jackets long wait however ended when it was announced they would be traveling to The Motor City, Detroit, Michigan to take on the Big Ten’s. It will be the Jackets first appearance in the bowl game.
The Yellow Jackets will take on the Minnesota Golden Gopher on December 26th at Ford Field. Minnesota this season went 6-6 overall including 3-6 in Big Ten play. The most notable wins for the Gophers this year came against Fresno State (21-14), Purdue (41-10) and Wisconsin (37-15). It was a decent season for P.J Fleck’s squad after going 5-7 in his first season.
The game, of course, will be the final game of the Paul Johnson era for Georgia Tech as the 61-year-old announced that he is stepping down from his head coaching position last week. The Jackets are currently in search for their next head coach.
It’s safe to say the reaction from fans, players, and writers alike are not in favor of the bowl selection. The full ACC Bowl matchups are the following;
- Quick Lane Bowl: Minnesota vs Georgia Tech
- Walk-On’s Independence Bowl: Temple vs Duke
- New Era Pinstripe Bowl: Wisconsin vs Miami
- Camping World Bowl: West Virginia vs Syracuse
- Belk Bowl: South Carolina vs Virginia
- Military Bowl: Cincinnati vs Virginia Tech
- TaxSlayer Bowl: Texas A&M vs NC State

The Yellow Jackets and the Gophers will begin preparing for each other immediately as they will prepare to meet in just a little over three weeks from now. It should be a good matchup as the Yellow Jackets will look to send Paul Johnson out on top while PJ Fleck’s Golden Gophers are always up for a dogfight.
