Georgia Tech Football: Future Jacket QB Jordan Yates shines in Georgia’s 7A State Title Game
Georgia Tech quarterback commitment Jordan Yates shined in Georgia’s 7A state title game on Wednesday night.
As he has for the majority of his senior season for Milton, Georgia Tech quarterback commitment Jordan Yates shined on Wednesday night in the Georgia 7A state title game against Colquitt County.
The Milton Eagles entered the game as a 21-point underdog in projections but found a way to eek by the Colquitt County Packers 14-13 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Entering the game, Colquitt County was considered the eighth best team in the country while Milton was ranked 73rd.
Yates, a three-star composite recruit according to 247Sports composite rankings, played more like a five-star on Wednesday night against Colquitt, throwing for 177-yards while adding an additional 96 on the ground according to The Albany Herald. The most impressive play of the night came when Yates threw a perfect pass to wide receiver Jordan Cox for a 66-yard touchdown.
At the game watching Yates was his future head coach Geoff Collins. With some worried Yates may be rethinking his decision of coming to The Flats, it appeared he’s comfortable with his decision, as he was donning Georgia Tech gloves during yesterday’s game.
Milton did have to stop a late drive by Colquitt but after allowing a good chunk of yards, the Eagles were able to hold the Packers at midfield. From there, Milton and Yates were able to begin celebrating their improbable state championship.
Yates, as mentioned above, is a three-star recruit by all the major recruiting services. But that being said, Rivals’ Woody Womack has advocated for Yates throughout this season and did so once again following the victory.
Yates, next Wednesday is expected to sign with Georgia Tech. We’re (YJU) not sure of when he’s expected to enroll, but as soon as we do we’ll update this story. That being said, Yates once he arrives on campus will have the chance to compete for the starting quarterback job.
Yates has an advantage over some of the other quarterbacks on the roster with being able to be a rather crisp passer. That being said, he’ll still have to fend off the likes of James Graham, Tobias Oliver, and Lucas Johnson if he wants to earn the starting quarterback job. That being said, it wouldn’t be shocking to see at least one of those quarterbacks leave before next season, especially if the Jackets look to bring in either a regular transfer or grad transfer at quarterback.
Either way, Yates will have the opportunity to earn the starting quarterback job right off the bat once he gets to Tech. His future is bright, to say the least, and is already looking like an early steal for the Yellow Jackets in the 2019 recruiting class.
