Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs Garder-Webb Running’ Bulldogs

McCamish Pavillion (Atlanta, GA)
Odds: NO LINE

The Georgia Tech basketball program will meet Gardner-Webb on the basketball court for the first time in history on Monday night when the Running’ Bulldogs come to McCamish Pavillion to face the 5-3 Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech is coming off a 33-point victory over Florida A&M after dropping back-to-back heartbreakers against Northwestern (67-61) and St. John’s (76-73). Monday night’s matchup will start a big week for the Yellow Jackets that has them facing Arkansas (Dec. 19) and Georgia (Dec. 22) in addition to Gardner-Webb.

Gardner-Webb will enter Monday night with a 7-5 record and five straight victories. However, two of those victories came against non-division one opponents. The Yellow Jackets will be the second major conference opponent for the Bulldogs this season. Their other major conference opponent was Virginia Tech on November 9th which resulted in an 87-59 loss for the Bulldogs.

As a team, Gardner-Webb is one of the better shooting teams in the country, shooting at a .487 clip for the season while averaging 82.2 points per game. They’re one of the best offensive teams in the nation which means it will take another strong effort from the Yellow Jackets defense which has allowed just 58.8 points per game this season.

Probable Starters:

Gardner-Webb:

  • G #11 David Efianayi
  • G #10 Nate Johnson
  • G #4 Christian Turner
  • F #25 DJ Laster
  • F #5 Jose Perez

The Yellow Jackets will have to be aware of both Efianayi and Perez who are both averaging 17.2 points per game this season. But their entire starting five are dangerous, as each member currently has an offensive rating over 100 including three starters (Perez, Turner, Johnson) with offensive ratings above 120. All five are strong three-point shooters as well with each player shooting above .380 from beyond the arch. The Yellow Jackets will need another strong defensive effort on Monday night.

Georgia Tech:

  • G #10 Jose Alvarado
  • G #4 Brandon Alston
  • G #13 Curtis Haywood II
  • F #1 James Banks III
  • F #5 Moses Wright

We’re projecting the Yellow Jackets normal starting five over the last few games. Alvarado and Alston have been consistent offensive threats throughout the season. Both Banks and Wright, however, have yet to get it going offensively at a consistent level so far this season, gaining some momentum to do so on Monday would be big for the Yellow Jackets as they enter an important week.
