Georgia Tech Football: Five things to know about Minnesota
4) They have a Jekyll and Hyde rush defense
Minnesota’s rush defense this year to say the least has been inconsistent. On average, they’ve allowed 170.7 rushing yards per game and an average of 5.2 yards per carrying. When you break down their game logs, the Gophers this season though you see two vastly different run defenses.
Out of their 12 games, the Gophers played six games in which they allowed 100-yards or less. They had solid performances against Iowa and Indiana as well allowing 106 and 153 yards respectively in those two contests. That’s where the good performances stop.
In the four remaining games, the Gophers allowed 170, 315, 383, and 430 yards. Each of the last three-yard totals resulted in losses for the Gophers this season. In those three games, they allowed a total of 13 touchdowns. The Jackets this season rushed for 300+ yards in seven games this season. They collected a 5-2 record in those seven games.
