Georgia Tech Football: Early Signing Day Afternoon Update
The early national signing period started on a Wednesday morning and it’s been the eventful few hours for the Yellow Jackets.
First of all, I’d like to start our by saying I’m writing this on my lunch break at work so this will only be a few quick hits on the day. Later on, I’ll provide my complete thoughts on the events that transpired today.
Commitments Signed:
By my count, the Yellow Jackets have announced 16 commitments have signed so far today. They entered the day with 17 commitments (not counting Southers) and as of 1:00 p.m, they sit at 18. Though a bit of shuffling has gone on since 7:00 a.m.
The Notables:
- Early this morning just after signing day officially started, the Yellow Jackets announced wide receiver Ahmarean Brown had signed. Since then, they’ve pulled down the tweet and Rivals’ Kelly Quinlan says the Yellow Jackets jumped the gun a bit on the announcement. He has yet to sign but will later today.
- Safety Britton Allen was part of our flip watch in our morning and post. Well, Allen did just that this morning when he flipped to Southern Cal and signed with the Trojans. It’s a considerable loss for the Yellow Jackets as Allen was their top ranked player entering Wednesday.
- With recruiting you often lose some battles but you also win some battles. Not too long after the news came that Allen had flipped his commitment to USC, the Jackets landed a flip of their own in Belgian defensive end Sylvia Yondjouen. It’s a big time pick up for the Yellow Jackets who flipped him from the University of Arizona.
Overall, the Yellow Jackets have had a decent morning and early afternoon. While losing a player of Allen’s caliber does sting, they have still signed the majority of their class already and were able to flip a raw but potential stud prospect in Yondjouen.
As mentioned earlier, we will be back later tonight with full thoughts on the entirety of Georgia Tech’s 2019 early national signing day performance.
