If Football Scoop’s report that current Toledo running back coach and former Florida wide receiver coach Kerry Dixon II is the next WR coach at Georgia Tech, then Geoff Collins has made a home run hire.

Dixon has risen through the college ranks over the last decade and has become a tremendous position coach and recruiter. In terms of recruiting, Dixon has an extensive history in Florida, coaching at FAU, FIU, and Florida from 2012 to 2017.
Dixon’s time at Florida was mainly recruiting wide receivers where he recruited three top-100 players including two top-50 wide receivers. In 2016, Rivals named Dixon one of their top 25 recruiters for the 2016 recruiting class.

In total he recruited eight four-star recruits with the Gators. When he gets receivers to work with, he often cashes in and gets great results. His best wide receiver at Florida was All-American caliber wideout Antonio Callaway, who if he stayed out of trouble, could’ve been a first round draft pick. It is worth noting that Florida was his only experience as a WR coach, making it a slightly limited sample size. Other than with the Gators, Dixon has spent most of his time as a running back coach.
Overall, Tech fans should be excited with the potential of the (a) Dixon hire. In his five years at Florida, Dixon coach several NFL caliber wide receivers despite offensive struggles. If it’s any indication of what he can do, the Jackets wide receivers should be fun to watch in the upcoming seasons. But more importantly, Dixon has the potential to become an elite recruiter with the Yellow Jackets.

Dixon depending on his recruiting territory (we would believe it would be parts of Florida) would allow the Jackets to dip into the Sunshine State and steal some undervalued but still highly rated talent. His ability to flash his coaching abilities (i.e Antonio Calloway) should only help his cause on the recruiting trail.

Next. Jackets hire Tashard Choice as RB coach. dark

Of course, most of this is still speculation as this hire isn’t official yet. Though once it becomes official, Geoff Collins will have officially made a home run hire.
