Georgia Tech will be paying Temple $2.5 million for the buyout of Geoff Collins according to a report.

Hiring away head coaches from current jobs can always be a costly and the price for Georgia Tech hiring away Geoff Collins has finally been released. According to Stadium’s Brett McMurphy, Georgia Tech will pay Temple $2.5 million.

The news of the buyout price came as it was announced that newly hired Temple head coach Manny Diaz would be leaving the Owls after just 17 days to become the next head coach at The University of Miami following the surprising retirement of Mark Richt.

In comparison, the reported buyout for Manny Diaz was $4 million. The two buyouts total $6.5 million for Temple. Not too bad of a payday(s) that will be coming for the Owls.

The Diaz hiring at Miami could impact the Jackets however in the short term. Diaz wasn’t expected to keep much of Temple’s coaching staff at Miami but with a new coaching search having to be done in Philadelphia, the next head coach may look to keep some guys on staff.  That being said, expect Tech to try to expedite the process of any the coaches that are coming over Temple, making sure that they can get those coaches on The Flats.

So far, Georgia Tech has announced the hiring of three coaches. Running backs coach Tashard Choice, wide receivers coach Kerry Dixon, and strength and conditioning coach Lewis Caralla. It was also reported that Temple OC Dave Patenaude will also be coming to Tech but the exact role is unknown at this time.

Geoff Collins told media at his most recent press conference that he would add staff hiring a following each coaches respective bowl game with their respective would be former programs.
