Two coordinators who spent time with Geoff Collins at Temple will join his staff at Georgia Tech, Dave Petenaude as Offensive Coordinator and Andrew Thacker as Defensive Coordinator.

Georgia Tech has announced the hiring of two more staff members on Monday afternoon. This time fulfilling the positions of offensive and defensive coordinator in Dace Petenaude and Andrew Thacker respectively.

Petenaude has almost 30-year career coaching college football spending his last six years between Temple and Coastal Carolina. Patenaude has a record of success everywhere he has contributed including three, ten win seasons in five years at Coastal Carolina and then helping Temple win the Gasparilla Bowl in 2017. The 2017 Temple team had split time between two quarterbacks and still managed to pass for the second most yards in school history that year. This year, the Jackets finished the season with their program record for most points in a single season.

His offense is the fast, spread out, pro-style offense that Coach Collins had promised fans would see out of Georgia Tech going into next season.

Joining Patenaude is former Temple linebackers coach and defensive coordinator Andrew Thacker. Thacker served in the same position with the Owls during this season. The Owls defense under the Georgia native was ferocious to say the least. The Owls forced 31 turnovers on the season while scoring eight defensive touchdowns. The Owls allowed just over 374 yards and 27 points per game.

The Jackets this past season played in an aggressive defense under Nate Woody. The Jackets will have the opportunity to carry the momentum they had in the big play making category over into 2019 under Thacker.

Overall, Geoff Collins continues the trend of hiring for both experience and recruiting ability all of which point to a potentially quicker transition process for the program. The Yellow Jackets still have several coaching jobs left to be announced in the upcoming days or weeks.
