The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team is lightning up the competition this year on their way to a 10-3 start.
While the Georgia Tech men’s basketball team struggles with consistency, we here at Yellow Jackets Up thought the Women’s basketball team deserved some props for their fantastic start to the 2018 season.
The Jackets looking for their first NCAA Women’s NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014 finished their non conference schedule with a 10-3 record. That being said, the Jackets still have plenty of work to do to get back to the tournament.
Despite winning 20+ games in four of their last five seasons, the Jackets have only had one NCAA Tournament birth due to their struggles in ACC play. Over the last two seasons, they have gone a collected 11-21 against conference opponents.
The Jackets will get their conference slate underway on Thursday against Boston College (11-2). The Jackets will then play two top-3 teams in their next three games when they face No.2 Notre Dame and No.3 Louisville.

The Jackets won’t play a team currently below .500 until February 24th, when they take on the Virginia Cavaliers. Everyone else in the ACC currently has a winning record and is at least four games above .500 on the season.
If the women’s team hopes to continue their success from the non-conference slate into conference play. They’ll need to continue to be hard to beat at home, where they are undefeated at 6-0 on the season.
They’ll also need true freshman guard Elizabeth Balogun along with Francesca Pan to continue their strong play as they both are averaging over 14 points per game entering the new year. Freshman forward Elizabeth Dixon is also off to a good start, averaging 10.1 points per game and will be a major part of the team’s success going forward.
Overall, the Jackets are off to a great start at 10-3 however they’ve come to struggle in their conference slate. They’ll look to avoid those struggles this year and will need their freshman to continue to play above their experience level.
