Next up in our player recaps is #4 and freshman quarterback James Graham who saw limited playing time before being ruled academically ineligible to play in the bowl game.

True freshman quarterback James Graham entered the 2018 calendar year as a quarterback for the Yellow Jackets, the Jackets hoping to use his athleticism on the field in 2018 then chose to move him to wide receiver for the season. Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, quarterback Lucas Johnson suffered a significant leg injury in camp causing Graham to move back to the quarterback.

With all that being said, Graham in the 2018 season saw playing time in three games for the Yellow Jackets. He played against Duke, Virginia Tech, and Georgia. Overall, Graham had five carries on the season for 27-yards and one pass completion on one attempt.

Graham was expected to play some sort of role in the Jackets bowl game but he was ruled academically ineligible. He’ll have time to get eligible prior to spring ball starting. That being said, following an Instagram story post, there is some speculation that Graham could be thinking about transferring. That being said, it would’ve made sense for Graham to announce a transfer prior to the beginning of the spring semester at Tech. But we’ll find out more as time goes on.

It’s not known where Graham will be playing in the Jackets’ new offensive system under head coach Geoff Collins. Graham could stay at quarterback where he could compete for the starting job or potentially make a move to wide receiver. Any position change may only be temporary as well as Collins has a history of putting players in positions to make plays where they can contribute even if it’s not their natural position. It should be noted that Graham was committed to Virginia Tech as a wide receiver before he flipped his commitment to the Yellow Jackets.

Graham’s future holds uncertainty but the one thing that is certain is if/when he gets the chance to be an impact player for the Yellow Jackets, he will be. A talented and versatile athlete, Graham could be a dangerous weapon for the Jackets going forward.
