Early odds have the Georgia Tech football program as extreme longshots to win the 2019 National Championship.

The 2018 college football season officially came to an end last night when the Clemson Tigers whooped the Alabama Crimson Tide 44-16. It surely was a game nobody expected. With that being said, early odds for the 2019 National Champions are out and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are extreme longshots.

According to Westgate Las Vegas, the Yellow Jackets have 1000-1 odds to win next years national championship.

That’s among the lowest in the nation but isn’t totally unexpected. The Yellow Jackets will be in a transition year in 2019 and could experience difficulties on offense. Most expect it to be an up-and-down season.

That being said, the Yellow Jackets will open next season against the favorites to win it all, as they will take on Clemson in Death Valley on August 29th. The Yellow Jackets lost to the Tigers 49-21 in what was Trevor Lawrence’s first game where he saw extensive playing time. He was named the Tigers starting quarterback for the week following that game.

We can all confidently say, the Yellow Jackets won’t win the national championship in 2019. That being said, perhaps the Yellow Jackets could provide excitement next season and they’ll fry their first chance on August 29th.

On a non-Georgia Tech note, I’d like to say that some of these odds seem ridiculous. For starters, Nebraska at 25-1 seems a tad ridiculous even in the weaker Big Ten division. Miami at 80-1? I know that makes them a longshot but they deserve much more, perhaps 100-1 to 200-1. The Hurricanes program is a disaster right now and that’s not turning around next season. Kansas has better odds than Georgia Tech? Perhaps because Clemson is in the ACC it lowers the rest of the ACC’s odds but don’t tell me that the worst program in America will turn it around in one year under Les Miles. Overall, a lot of these numbers seem ridiculous but that’s what you get when putting on odds on something over a year away.
