The former four-star out of Louisiana didn’t have the season many expected him to have to enter 2018 but the future is still bright for the Georgia Tech legacy.

Entering 2018, it’s safe to say expectations were high for Georgia Tech linebacker Bruce Jordan-Swilling. The Georgia Tech legacy out of Louisiana was coming off a strong freshman season that saw him put up 34 total tackles, one forced fumble, one interception, and one pass deflection. With the chance to see only more time on the field in 2018, the production level was expected to improve, however, that’s not what the cards held for Jordan-Swilling.

2018 Recap:

The Louisiana native only appeared in 10 games for the Jackets over the course of the season missing Tech’s first two games against Alcorn State and USF before missing the bowl game against Minnesota. On top of that, Jordan-Swilling was a backup to start the season for the Yellow Jackets playing behind redshirt sophomore David Curry at middle linebacker.

Over the course of his 10 games, Jordan-Swilling tried to make the most of his opportunities. After a slow start, picking up just eight tackles in his four games, Swilling had his best game of the season against Duke, collecting eight tackles and one fumble recovery. It was the type of game many Tech fans expected out of him on a weekly basis. It was also the second best game of his career in terms of numbers only following an 11-tackle performance against Virginia in his freshman season. That game also saw him have one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one interception.

2019 Preview:

Jordan-Swilling was probably a better running back coming out of high school than he was a linebacker but either way, he’s talented at linebacker as well. That being said, it will be interesting to see if Geoff Collins and his coaching staff ponder any potential move to be made for Jordan-Swilling, moving him from linebacker back to running back. If not, I would expect him to be in for a strong 2019 season that sees him get more playing time. He’s not the most natural linebacker the Jackets have but his skill set is certainly one that the Jackets could use more on the field. Overall, if he stays on the defensive side of the ball, he could be in for a breakout season in 2019.
