Georgia Tech football has added a “commitment” from former Miami WR Marquez Ezzard.

Former Miami Hurricane wide receiver Marquez Ezzard has found his new home, and that new home will be The Flats of Georgia Tech.

The former four-star wide receiver will be playing just 40 minutes from where he played his high school football at Stockbridge High School. Part of the 2018 recruiting cycle, Ezzard committed to Miami over 27 other programs on his reported offer sheet. Other offers included Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, and Florida State.

Ezzard played two games for the Hurricanes this season, bringing in two receptions for 24-yards. By playing in just two games, he was able to hold onto his redshirt. Following the season and the surprise coaching change of Mark Richt retiring, Ezzard announced his decision to transfer away from the Hurricanes.

On Saturday, he finally made his decision as he announced his decision to join the Yellow Jackets on Twitter, Saturday afternoon.

With Ezzard joining the Yellow Jackets, the Jackets will have 11 wide receivers on scholarship for next season including four wide receivers as part of the 2019 recruiting class. The addition of Ezzard, moves the Jackets to 86 scholarships for 2019 by our count. That includes current commitments from Nazir Burnett and Cornelius Evans. If the Jackets sign Rome (GA) running back Jamious Griffin and Michael Lockhart like most experts believe, the Jackets will have 87 scholarships on count for 2019 come Wednesday.

Now, for the Yellow Jackets, that means that they will have to get back to 85 by the start of fall camp. Which means there will be at least a few transfers or departures in some variation away from the program this spring and summer.

Ezzard right now will have to sit out one year for the program but could apply for immediate eligibility and get a waiver through the NCAA but for now, that appears to be a longshot. Either way, once Ezzard steps on the field, he will present the Yellow Jackets with a tremendous wide receiver option and one who can be a playmaker on The Flats.
