Former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Shaq Mason one his second Super Bowl on Sunday night when the New England Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3.

Former Georgia Tech offensive lineman Shaq Mason is now a two-time Super Bowl Champion. The former Yellow Jacket, who is widely considered one of the best guards in the NFL helped the New England Patriots on Sunday night defeat the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in Super Bowl 53. Of course, this Super Bowl had local ties as it was held in the beautiful Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the beautiful city that Georgia Tech calls home, Atlanta. It’s safe to say it was a good return to the #404 for Mason.

Despite the Patriots offensive struggles for the most part on Sunday, Mason played a key role in springing former UGA running back Sonny Michel through the Rams front seven several times. Michel ended up having the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter before the Patriots put the game in the back with a field goal with under two minutes remaining.

For Mason, it’s been quite the rise to being among the NFL’s elite. Coming out of high school in Columbia, Tennessee, Mason was considered a low three-star prospect and the 75th best guard in the country during the 2011 recruiting cycle. He was also the Yellow Jackets third lowest rated recruit in that recruiting class. But that wouldn’t stop Mason, the Tennessee native would play right away as a true freshman on The Flats and would end making close to 40 starts for the Yellow Jackets. He also earned himself a First Team All-ACC selection as well as a Second Team All-ACC selection.

Following his tremendous career with the Jackets under head coach Paul Johnson, Mason was drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Patriots. Mason from there would start his journey to becoming among the NFL’s most elite offensive lineman. He, of course, was a part of the Patriots Super Bowl 51 Championship over the Falcons as well as New England’s 2017 AFC Championship team.

Next. WR Marquez Ezzard to transfer to The Flats. dark

Prior to this season, Mason received a monster extension from the Patriots, it paid off as he was named to Pro Football Focus’s All-Pro team for the 2018-19 season. The highly acclaimed website also named him their top guard of the 2018-19 season.

Yellow Jacked Up congratulates Shaq on his second Super Bowl championship! That being said, everyone must now put up with the Patriots being Super Bowl Champions once again…
