Georgia Tech will look to avoid their sixth straight loss on Wednesday night against No.22 Virginia Tech.

Georgia Tech will once again look to avoid extending their season-long losing streak on Wednesday when they take on No.22 Virginia Tech. The Jackets losers of five straight have only won two games since the two teams last met on January 9th. Since then Virginia Tech is 4-3 while the Jackets are just 2-7 with wins Syracuse and Notre Dame.

The Jackets over their five-game losing streak have struggled immensely on offense with their highest point total over the streak being just 59 points. The last time the two teams met wasn’t exactly a barn burner either with the Jackets scoring just 49 points in a 52-49 loss.

Virginia Tech, on the other hand, hasn’t been hot on the offensive side of the court either, struggling in each of their last three games including a 47-point performance against NC State (The Wolfpack only scored 24 points however).

Over this stretch, the Jackets have not been getting a ton out of their top players including point guard Jose Alvarado. In each of the Jackets last five games, Alvarado has scored less than 10 points including a 5 point performance against Notre Dame. At one point this season, Alvarado was averaging nearly 15 points per game, now his average has dropped to just a mere 11.7 and he’s shooting just 37.7%.

Against the Hokies on Wednesday, the Jackets will certainly need to find their offensive stride but it won’t be easy going against a team that like the Jackets prides themselves on their defense. The Hokies are allowing just 60.7 points per game this season and are keeping opponents to a shooting percentage of .403 on the season.

Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech tip-off on Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m in Blacksburg.
