The Georgia Tech softball team on Wednesday will look to go above .500 as they take on crosstown rival Georgia State.

Georgia Tech is coming off a 2-2 weekend series split this past weekend and will look to get above .500 for the first time this season. The Jackets will do so by taking on crosstown rival, the Georgia State Panthers on Wednesday evening.

The Panthers are off to a rough start this season, losing each of their first five games of the season. Their latest loss was last Saturday to the top-ranked UCLA Bruins by a final score 9-1.

For those who didn’t read our recap of this past weekend’s trip for the Yellow Jackets to Jacksonville. The Jackets were able to split their four-game road trip. After losing their first two games of the season to Providence, both by the final score of 4-3. They were able to recover nicely, picking up wins over UMass-Lowell and Jacksonville. The Jackets will now have their first chance to go above .500 on the season.

The Jackets pitching hasn’t been superb to start the season, allowing 24 runs through their first games but they should have an easier test on Wednesday night. The Panthers have scored more than one run just once in their first five games, that game coming against Mount Saint Mary last Thursday. In their last four games, the Panthers have been outscored 36-3 in their last four games.

On the flip side, the Jackets bats should have a strong opportunity to continue their success from Saturday and Sunday as the Panthers are allowing over 8 runs per game this season.

First pitch between the Yellow Jackets and Panthers is set for 5:00 pm at Shirley Clements Mewborn Field.
