It’s hard to believe but Jerry Howard is already a junior and is entering his third season on The Flats. Howard, may be a better fit to be a full back in the Jackets offense this upcoming season if that’s the way they choose to go but if he stays as a running back, he’ll provide a punch in the backfield.

At 6-foot-0 and 215-pounds, Howard is one of the bigger running backs the Jackets have and he uses that size to success. His ability to use his size as an asset and to plow through the offensive line and opposing defenders is one reason he’s enjoyed notable success through his first two seasons. Howard saw an increased role in 2018, carrying the rock 107 times over the season, rushing for 564-yards and five touchdowns. He’s not the most agile or the fastest but he’s resourceful with what he does have and does well with it.

Howard will have an opportunity to battle for the starting role this upcoming season but will most likely fall into one of the backup roles. Of course, as mentioned above, he could also make the move to fullback.
