An All-ACC running back in 2017, KirVonte Benson looked poised to have a big 2018 season for the Jackets but tore his ACL against USF in the Jackets second game of the season. For Benson, it’s his second knee injury in four years as he also tore his ACL in his senior season at Marietta High School, which does leave some cause for concern going forward.

When on the field, Benson is a tremendous running back and of course is an All-ACC caliber running back. He had a tremendous year as the starting running back in 2017 and was off to another great start this season before his injury.

Benson if healthy will have a chance to compete for the starting job but chances are he will be limited in the spring which will put him in a hole in the competition entering this fall. Benson has the size to plow through defenders and has shown the ability to do so through his first 13 games as a starting running back.

If he’s healthy, Benson will add an interesting twist to the Jackets running back competition, if not, it’s hard to say where Benson will fall on the depth chart this upcoming season. He’ll be an interesting potential transfer candidate following the spring depending on how everything places out. Especially considering the addition of freshman running back Jamious Griffin this upcoming summer.
