Georgia Tech Softball: Jackets finish Mississippi State tournament strong
The Georgia Tech softball team finished off their time in Starkville, Mississippi strong sweeping their doubleheader on Monday.
The Georgia Tech softball team will be coming back to Atlanta with an 8-6 record after sweeping their doubleheader on Monday as part of the final day at the Mississippi State Tournament in Starkville, Mississippi. The Jackets took on Southeastern Louisiana and Mississippi State on Monday.
Southeastern Louisiana: 4-2 win
The Jackets first game on Monday afternoon was against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions. Amber Johns took to the mound for the Jackets against the Lions and pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks. The 4-2 win for Johns pushes Johns record to 3-3 on the season.
Offensively, the Jackets had a pretty strong game, putting together six hits and four walks en route to their four runs. It was a good start for the Jackets on a day where they needed to have strong performances.
Mississippi State: 6-4 win
Yesterday, the Yellow Jackets took on Mississippi State and was thoroughly defeated 9-0. Today, the Yellow Jackets looked to get their revenge on the Bulldogs. The Jackets did just that on Monday afternoon as they eeked out a 6-4 win despite a late charge from the Bulldogs. Morgan Bruce got the start for the Jackets and put together five quality innings. Bruce allowed four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two.
Offensively, the Jackets had one of their better performances of the season totaling 13 hits and 3 walks for the game. The 16 base runners the Jackets had helped put up 6 runs. Mississippi State did start a late rally, as they put up 3 runs in the sixth inning but the Jackets would stop the bleeding before it was too late.
The Yellow Jackets will return to the field on Wednesday night when they take on Kennesaw State.
