One of the Peach State’s best offensive tackles announced his top four schools on Tuesday and the Jackets made the cut.

2020 Roswell, Georgia native Trey Zimmerman is one of the best offensive lineman in the Peach State and a top-500 player nationally. Holding 18 scholarship offers to enter this week according to his 247Sports profile, Zimmerman was able to cut down his list of schools to four programs.

Joining the Yellow Jackets’ in Zimmerman’s top four is the Auburn Tigers, the Duke Blue Devils, and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Auburn:

The Tigers are the 247Sports’s crystal ball favorite for Zimmerman though there is currently only one crystal ball in right now for Zimmerman. That being said, that crystal ball prediction came just a few days ago from Auburn insider Keith Niebuhr. Niebuhr is 6-for-6 in his predictions for the 2020 recruiting cycle and registered a correct prediction percentage of 86.84% in the 2019 recruiting cycle. So it’s safe to say that Niebuhr only registers his predictions when he has a pretty good feeling of the situation.

Duke:

The Blue Devils have been involved with Zimmerman for quite some time now but only recently offered the three-star prospect. It’s hard to say how much of a chance that the Blue Devils stand here for Zimmerman but they have a fighters chance in our opinion. He’s made at least one trip to Duke in the past and depending on how much academics matter to Zimmerman, the Blue Devils could have even have a quality chance for Zimmerman.

North Carolina:

The Tar Heels recently got an unofficial visit from Zimmerman and he seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. FWIW, he has also made his Twitter profile picture as him in a North Carolina uniform. The Tar Heels have a new staff like the Yellow Jackets and the draw of playing for a head coach like Mack Brown will make the Tar Heels a popular team to visit in the upcoming months or many recruits. Without insider information, it’s hard to say how much of a chance UNC has here.

Georgia Tech:

Saving the best for last, is the Yellow Jackets. The good news of the bat for the Jackets is that they have made pretty good ground on Zimmerman so far in just a little over a month. While the old Tech regime was recruiting Zimmerman, it wasn’t until the past month or so until the Jackets really started pushing hard for the Roswell native. That being said, Duke also only recently offered Zimmerman.

The Jackets also have the distinction of being only half an hour away from Zimmerman’s hometown. Zimmerman has made more than one trip up to The Flats already including a trip to the Jackets junior day last month. One has to believe that the ability to play close to home and receive a world-class education does draw well to Zimmerman and puts them right up there with Auburn. At this point, it’s all speculation but we’ll learn more as time goes on.

With a top four, it’s reasonable to expect that Zimmerman is probably looking to make a commitment, sooner rather than later. There’s no set date yet but we wouldn’t be surprised if Zimmerman looks to wrap this up either sometime in the early Summer or at the least by the start of his senior season.
