Georgia Tech Softball: Jackets take down Kennesaw State

The Georgia Tech softball team took down the Kennesaw State Owls on Wednesday night 6-3.

The Georgia Tech softball team extended their winning streak to three games on Wednesday night when the Jackets took down the Kennesaw State Owls 6-3. The Jackets put together a complete performance against the Owls with the offense clicking and starting pitcher Morgan Bruce putting together a solid outing.

Bruce made her second start of the season against the Owls and pitched a quality game through her six innings on the mound. Through her six innings, Bruce gave up five hits and five walks but was able to strike out five while allowing just three runs in the process.

Amber Johns pitched in relief of Bruce, picking up her first save of the season. Bruce got the win for the game, improving her record to 4-1 on the season.

Offensively, the Jackets put together a great effort collecting eight hits and five walks en route to scoring six runs against the Owls. Kennesaw State pitcher Hailey Andrews pitched a complete game against the Jackets and took the loss in the effort. It dropped her respective record to a somber 2-6 on the season.

For the Yellow Jackets, a three-run first inning got the Jackets off to a hot start. It was a terrific response to the Owls scoring a run of their own in the top of the first. The Jackets would add two insurance runs in the fourth inning. Kennesaw State would pick up two runs in the fifth inning before the Yellow Jackets put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Katie Krzus.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets moved their record to 9-6 on the season. It also improves their record to 4-2 at home. This upcoming weekend, the Jackets have five games scheduled with two against Fordham, and two against Hofstra as they take part in the I-75 Challenge. On Sunday, the Jackets will take on Western Carolina.
