The Georgia Tech softball team swept their five games over the weekend extending their winning streak to eight games.

Don’t look now but the Georgia Tech softball team is officially on fire. The Yellow Jackets coming into this past weekend had five games slated between Friday and Sunday. The Jackets did nothing but win those fives games.

Entering the weekend, the Jackets had a three-game winning streak, taking down Southern Louisiana, Mississippi State, and Kennesaw State. It had them just above .500 as they treaded water through the first few weeks of the season. But now, the Jackets are sitting at 14-6 heading into their final two non-conference games before conference play begins. If they could take down Jacksonville State and Georgia, it would be a big statement for the Jackets.

Either way, the Jackets will enter this weekend sitting at third place in the ACC. They currently sit behind Florida State (21-0) and Virginia Tech (16-3). The Jackets are slated to take on the Hokies this weekend in a three-game series starting on Friday in Blacksburg.

This past weekend the Jackets started their five-games with two games against Fordham in the I-75 Challenge. The Jackets took both games by one-run, winning game one by the final score of 1-0 before winning game two, 4-3. The Jackets then took on Hofstra, winning their first game against Pride 8-1. Game two was a little closer between the two teams with the Jackets as the Jackets narrowly pulled out a 2-1 win.

The Jackets finished their five-game weekend homestand against the Western Carolina Catamounts and had their best offensive output of the weekend putting up 9 runs. The Catamounts had a strong offensive showing themselves but the Jackets eeked out a 9-6 win.

Overall, it was a great weekend for the Yellow Jackets by all accounts and one of their best over the past few seasons. Now, they’ll look to extend their winning streak on Tuesday when they take on Jacksonville State.
