Georgia Tech Baseball: Jackets take their talents to Kennesaw State
The Georgia Tech baseball team will travel to Kennesaw State on Tuesday to begin a home-and-home series against the Owls.
The Georgia Tech baseball team will look for their eighth win of the season on Tuesday evening when they travel to Kennesaw to take on the Kennesaw State Owls. The Jackets are coming off a strong showing this past weekend against Northwestern and will begin ACC play this upcoming weekend against Miami.
Last Tuesday, the Jackets entered the week with a batting average of exactly .200. Now, just a week later, the Jackets are hitting .251 on the season. The pitching staff had a pretty dominant past week as well and enter this week with a team ERA of 3.06.
Taking the mound tonight for the Jackets is junior right-hander Amos Willingham. He enters the game with a 1-0 record and a 5.23 ERA. Taking on Willingham is right-hander Jake McLinsky for Kennesaw State. McLinsky is 1-0 on the season and has a perfect ERA of 0.00.

Last time out for Willingham was last week against Georgia State and pitched six shutout innings for the Yellow Jackets in a 7-3. Jake McLinsky on the other hand for the Owls has not a made a start yet this season, making Tuesday night his first start of the season.
While the Yellow Jackets are coming in rather hot, winners of four of their last five, the Owls are looking to improve on a 2-2 week. Last week, the Owls lost their midweek game against Georgia before taking two of three from UT-Martin.
Offensively, the Owls have been pretty strong this season, hitting .264 on the season. They have three regulars hitting .300 on the season, led by senior infielder David Chabut. Chabut is hitting .385 through 10 games, driving in five runs in the process.
The Owls pitching staff has been strong as well and enters the series with a decent ERA of 3.70 while allowing hitters to a .215 batting average, over 20 points less than the Yellow Jackets opponents average of .237.
Overall, Tuesday’s game should be a strong battle between the two in-state rivals. Both teams enter the game with similar records and are pretty similar across the board. That being said, if each team’s RPI are any indicators, this home-and-home series could be similar to that of the Jackets series against Georgia Tate last weekend. Georgia State has an RPI of 228 while Kennesaw State sits at 242 per Warren Nolan. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm and can be watched on Facebook Live.
