Georgia Tech football has their first commitment in the 2020 recruiting class as they earned the commitment of pro-style quarterback Tucker Gleason.
The wait is over for Georgia Tech when it comes to landing their first commitment for the 2020 recruiting class. On Thursday afternoon, the Jackets earned a commitment from pro-style quarterback and Tampa, Florida native Tucker Gleason.
Gleason, a three-star quarterback in 247Sport’s composite rankings is ranked as a top-700 player nationally, the 30th best pro-style quarterback in the country, and the 91st best player in the state of Florida.
Gleason announced his commitment to Tech on Twitter.

Prior to his commitment, Gleason racked up a quality offer sheet including offers from Duke, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia. While the article itself is for 247Sport’s VIP members, 247Sports analyst John Garcia Jr. said in a tweet that Coach Geoff Collins wanted Gleason to be the “centerpiece” of the 2020 recruiting class.
Additionally, Rivals analyst Kelly Quinlan also tweeted out that Gleason is the first “public commitment” of the cycle for the Jackets so at this point, it’s fair to say that there are a few silent commitments in the class.
Gleason plays for “Plant High School” in Tampa, one of the better programs in Florida and the Tampa area. Last season, Plant went 11-2 with Gleason as their starting quarterback. For his junior season, Gleason completed 59% of his passes for 2,037-yards, 27 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He also ran the ball 122 times for 1,097-yards and five touchdowns showing a bit of a dual-threat ability when needed.
Overall, Gleason has nice size for a quarterback at 6-foot-2 and 200+ pounds while showing the ability to be dangerous with both his feet and his arm. He needs to improve on his accuracy but he shows quality mechanics and arm strength. Throughout his tape above, his throwing motion if often effortless. He still has a few pieces of his game to clean up but he has a quality skill set that should adapt well to the college game.
