Georgia Tech Baseball: Jackets set for showdown against Georgia Southern
The Georgia Tech baseball team will look to take down in-state rival Georgia Southern.
Georgia Tech is coming off a weekend that saw them drop two of three to Miami in their first ACC series of the year. On Tuesday evening, they’ll look to bounce back against the Georgia Southern Eagles at Russ Chandler Stadium. The game on Tuesday night will begin a four-game homestand for the Jackets as they have a three-game series against Virginia set for this weekend.
The Jackets enter the week with a 10-6 overall record including a 7-4 record at home. Georgia Southern, on the other hands, enter Tuesday night’s game with a 7-7 record and are winners of four of their last five games.
Taking the mound for the Jackets against the Eagles will be right hander Amos Willingham who is 2-0 on the season with a 4.02 ERA on the season. His last start came last week against Kennesaw State. He pitched five innings in that game, allowing one earned run across five hits and one walk.
On the bump for Georgia Southern is junior Tyler Owens Jr. who has a 1-0 on the season with a 0.79 ERA over 11.1 innings pitched. He’ll look to continue is hot pitching on Tuesday night against the Jackets.
Offensively, the Jackets have been hot of late and are now hitting .279 on the season, a huge improvement upon their .200 batting average just two weeks ago. That being said, only two Jackets are hitting above .300 on the season. Michael Guldberg is hitting .432 on the season while Kyle McCann is hitting .367 on the season and is second in the country in home runs with 10 on the season. Utility player Tristin English is hot as late himself with three home runs in the Jackets series against Miami.
First pitch for Tuesday afternoon’s game is set for 6:00 pm and can be watched on the ACC Network via ESPN3.com.
