The Georgia Tech baseball team took game two of their three-game weekend series against Virginia on Saturday.

The Georgia Tech baseball team picked up their second conference victory of 2019 on Saturday in a 7-3 victory over Virginia. The victory ties the weekend series at one-a-piece and sets up an important early season rubber match on Sunday afternoon. For the Yellow Jackets, it was a great bounce-back victory after another heartbreaking one-run loss on Friday night in the series opener.

The Jackets were propelled to victory thanks to a strong start from left-hander Connor Thomas. The junior lefty pitched 7.1 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 6 throughout his time on the mound. Hugh Chapman was the only reliever the Jackets used on Saturday afternoon as he shut the door, allowing one run over his 1.2 innings pitched. Thomas picked up the victory on the afternoon, his second of the season, pushing his record to 2-1 on the season with a 3.62 ERA.

Offensively, the Jackets got production from throughout their order with 7 of 9 hitters on Saturday collecting base hits. Catcher Kyle McCann had another great day at the plate, collecting three walks and his 13th home run of the season (2nd of the series). Luke Waddell also collected two RBI on the afternoon. Waddell along with Michael Guldberg and Nick Wilhite picked up three hits in Saturday’s win.

The Jackets will look for a series win on Sunday afternoon when left-hander Brant Hurter takes to the mound as the Jackets look for their first ACC series win of the season. Sunday it will also end the Jackets four-game home stand as they travel to face Mercer this week and travel to Louisville this weekend. The Jackets overall record sits at 12-7 on the season entering Sunday and 2-3 in ACC play.
