On one of the darkest days in the history of the Georgia Tech football program, the special bond that is college football once again shined through.

I’ll be honest as a writer, I felt that this needed to be written but I wasn’t really sure how it should go. So that being said, I’m going to just write over the next few paragraphs my thoughts on yesterday’s tragedy and the outpouring of support received.

On Sunday, it was announced that Georgia Tech defensive lineman Brandon Adams passed away unexpectedly. The news hit the Georgia Tech football program and fan base hard, not to mention the incredible pain and suffering that Adams’s family members and friends will be going through in the upcoming days, weeks, months, and years. It was a tragic loss and one that everyone is still in shock about. That being said, the response from the college football world on Sunday was a special one.

As we said on Twitter yesterday, we will reiterate here today;

“College Football is a beautiful sport and the communities in which they are built on are special. Amazing to see the outpouring of support from fans across the nation after today’s terrible news. No rivalries exist today. Just humans coming together. It’s what makes college football great.”

That was simply our reaction to the outpouring of support that we saw from fans and programs across the country. Yesterday, it didn’t matter what colors you represented whether it was the gold and white, the black and red, the red and white. We saw tweets from fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Auburn Tigers, the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Penn State Nittany Lions, and many more. It was simply one big college football fan base coming together and paying respects to a man that many probably didn’t even hear of before Sunday.

Now, some say, it’s human nature for humans to send condolences, thoughts, and prayers to those who have suffered a loss. But on Sunday, we once again saw why college football is such a great sport and why the fanbases are so special. We’ve seen it many times over the last few years, and the outpouring of support every time is amazing to see. Because each time a tragedy like this occurs, the rivalries go out the door, and the colors we wear don’t matter.

In the upcoming days, weeks, and months, fanbases will go back to being at each other’s necks. Georgia fans will be taunting Georgia Tech and Tech fans will do the same. But at the end of the day, we’re all human and we all love this magnificent sport of football and especially college football.

College Football coaches, players, and programs share a very special bond, there’s no denying that. But college football fans also share quite the bond themselves. It’s a special bond and it’s a bond that really isn’t matched in any other sport at any level. The way college football comes together in it’s darkest days is nothing short of remarkable and while everyone will hope for their rival to lose come next fall, at the end of the day, everyone is human and know that we’re just doing what we love to do just like Brandon Adams. Brandon will unfortunately never get to experience the potential of playing in the NFL one day but he was able to have an incredible impact on hundreds, if not thousands of people with the way he carried himself and the person he was. I never met Brandon Adams but by all accounts, Brandon was an amazing teammate and more importantly an amazing person and the way he was celebrated online yesterday was beautiful to see in its own right and something we should never forget. Because even though fanbases and teams sit and stand apart from each other in the bleachers and on the field, at the end of the day, we’re all humans and we’re just having fun and trying to make an impact in our brief time here on Earth, living life to it’s fullest just like Brandon Adams.

If you were able to read my ramblings above, thank you for taking time out of your busy day to read this. While I never met or spoke to Brandon Adams personally, I can feel the impact of his loss by the reactions of his teammates and friends on social media and the stories that have been posted and will be posted in the upcoming days. Let this be a reminder for us that we never know when our time will come and that we really should enjoy every day we’re able to live and that we should try our hardest every day to make a positive impact on someone’s life. Thank you and have a wonderful day, week, month, and year!
