The Georgia Tech baseball team will look to stay atop the ACC Coastal division his upcoming weekend against Notre Dame.

Georgia Tech baseball last weekend had a big series, taking two out of three games from a top-10 ranked Louisville squad. Now, the Jackets enter their third ACC series of the season atop of the ACC standings and are looking to stay there. If they hope to do so, they’ll need another big series, this time against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The Irish enter the weekend with a 10-12 record overall and an ACC record of 5-4, matching the Jackets record. Last weekend, they lost two of three to Florida State before taking their midweek game against Chicago State 6-3. The Irish are 5-5 in their last 10 and are 5-6 on the road this season.

Winners in 7 of their last 10, the Jackets are one of the hottest teams in the country and have looked like it both on the mound and at the plate. Xzavion Curry and Connor Thomas both had terrific starts last weekend for the Jackets while Brant Hurter pitched a great game himself last Sunday before a ninth-inning collapse cost Hurter and the Jackets a victory. Of course on Tuesday, the Jackets demolished UGA 11-2 behind a great start from Amos Willingham. It’s safe to say that the Jackets are clicking on all cylinders entering this weekend series. That’s not even mentioning the Jackets bats at the plate which have quickly risen to become the best offense in the ACC.

If the Jackets want to stay on top of the ACC this weekend, they’ll have little room for error as the Jackets are currently tied with Virginia in the ACC Coastal. While the Jackets have the tiebreaker with the Cavaliers, they’ll like to stay widen their lead as much as they could this weekend. The Cavaliers will have a tough challenge this weekend as they face the ACC’s top team, the NC State Wolfpack. The Wolfpack are 25-1 on the season and are 8-1 in conference play. The Jackets luckily wouldn’t have to face the Wolfpack until the ACC Tournament.

Either way, the Jackets will have to focus on the task at hand this weekend and that’s to take care of their own business. Xzavion Curry will get the first start of the series on Friday night for the Yellow Jackets and will look to pick up his 4th win of the season. He enters the game at 3-0 with an ERA of 3.31. The Irish will most likely send sophomore Tommy Sheehan to the mound with a 3-2 record and an ERA of 3.99. First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 6:00 pm at Russ Chandler Stadium.
