The Georgia Tech baseball team dropped their series opener to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Friday night.

Georgia Tech’s series opener against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish did not go to plan as the Yellow Jackets dropped the opener to the Fighting Irish by a final score of 9-6. Starting pitcher Xzavion Curry had one of his tougher starts of the season, lasting just four innings while surrendering four earned runs on five hits and two walks. He did strike out five in the process but overall struggled for the most part.

Notre Dame starter Tommy Sheehan didn’t pitch great himself, going five innings and allowing five earned runs over nine hits but did just enough to pick up his fourth win of the season. The Irish bullpen did much better than the Jackets bullpen as well, giving up no earned runs over four innings pitched. The Jackets bullpen gave up five runs over four innings in comparison.

Getting the loss for the Jackets is reliever Jake Lee, his first of the season. He exited Friday night’s ballgame with an ERA of 10.38.

For the Jackets, their offense didn’t have their best night but still was able to manage nine hits for the evening. All but three Yellow Jackets were able to record hits while Tristin English had one of his better nights going 3-for-4 with two home runs. The Jackets did, however, strike out 14 times.

For the Jackets, the loss to Notre Dame is a tough one to swallow. It’s a game they probably should’ve won and it could hurt down the road as the season gets later and later. They’ll look to rebound on Saturday at 4:00 pm when Connor Thomas takes the mound in game two.
