Georgia Tech’s week didn’t get off to a great start but the Jackets salvaged the week by taking their final two games against Boston College.

After losing the first two games of the week by a combined score of 21-4, the Georgia Tech baseball team bounced back on Saturday and Sunday against Boston College. The Jackets, took down the Eagles the Eagles behind strong pitching efforts while their bats were able to break out of a small slump.

Connor Thomas on Saturday pitched seven strong innings allowing just one run scattered over 5 hits and a single walk. He didn’t have his usual stuff in terms of the ability to generate strikeouts, with just four but he was able to do enough to keep the Boston College bats at bay.

A big third inning for the Jackets on Saturday put the Eagles out of early as well to, putting them down 7-0 after the first third of the game. It was a much-needed win for the Jackets to say the least.

On Sunday, the Jackets went out for their fifth straight ACC series victory as they sent Brant Hurter to the mound. Hurter looked to top Thomas’s strong start on Saturday and did a pretty good job doing so. The left-handed sophomore struck out nine Eagles over the course of seven innings with just two hits allowed and three walks.

Offensively, the Jacket on Sunday took advantage of nine Boston College walks while also picking up six hits of their own, only one more than Hurter and reliever Luke Bartnicki allowed for the game. Only Luke Waddell and Jackson Webb had multiple hit games in the 7-0 shutout victory.

Now, most importantly, the series win for the Yellow Jackets keep them atop the ACC Coastal heading into a huge week where they will play four games in five days. The Jackets will get to take on the Auburn Tigers on Tuesday night at 6:00 pm at home before traveling to Blacksburg on Thursday for a three-game series against the Hokies.

Auburn enters Tuesday night’s game against the Jackets with the same record as Tech at 24-12. The Hokies, on the other hand, 21-16 overall this year but have struggled in ACC play with a 6-12 record.
