Georgia Tech’s hot play continued on Tuesday night when they took down the No.16 Auburn Tigers, sweeping the season series.

Georgia Tech’s Amos Willingham got the start for the Jackets but struggled in his short time on the mound against the Tigers. Willingham lasted just 1.1 innings, allowing three earned runs over the course of three hits and three walks. The Jackets would find themselves in a 3-0 after the second inning but would begin to scratch back in the third inning, picking up a lone run.

The fourth and fifth innings turned out to be big innings for the Jackets as they picked up three runs in each inning, giving them a 6-4 lead heading into the sixth inning. The Jackets relievers on the evening were strong in their 7.2 innings pitched, allowing just three runs in the process despite allowing 10 hits and two walks. They were simply able to control the damage down by the Auburn bats throughout the rest of the game. Redshirt junior Jonathan Hughes picked up the win for the Jackets, his second of the season, moving his record to 2-1 on the year.

Offensively, the Jackets bats were strong throughout Tuesday night’s game, picking up their 11 runs on 14 hits and 10 walks. Once again, the Jackets showed why they’re one of the best offenses in the country and a lot of it has to deal with their patience at the plate. Eight of the Jackets nine hitters on Tuesday drove in at least one run throughout the game while five Jackets had multi-hit days.

Colin Hall led the Jackets on the day, going three-for-five with one RBI on the evening. Additionally, Luke Waddel went two-for-five with 2 RBI while Jackson Webb went two-for-five with three RBI on the evening. The Jackets got production from all up-and-down their lineup.

For the Yellow Jackets, the win marks their 25th of the season and brings them within six wins of tying their total amount of wins from last season at 31. The Jackets are now 25-12 on the season and the win also moves them up to top-10 in the RPI according to Warren Nolan. They’re now 14-5 in non-conference play on the season and 16-7 at home.

The Jackets will get back to ACC play this upcoming weekend when they travel to Blacksburg to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Hokies are 21-16 on the season and sit in the top-50 of the RPI entering Wednesday.
