The next time the Georgia Tech baseball team hits the diamond, it will be May 3rd and when they do, they’ll do so as a top-10 team in the country.

For the first time in a long time, the Georgia Tech baseball team is amongst the elite in college baseball and they’ll enter the final month of the college baseball regular season as a top-10 program.

The Jackets will enter May with a 30-14 overall record and have won seven straight ACC series after taking two of three from the Clemson Tigers this weekend. That was good enough for D1Baseball.com to move the Yellow Jackets from No.11 in the country last week to No.8 in the country this week.

The Jackets are the second best ACC team according to D1Baseball’s rankings with the Louisville Cardinals just one spot ahead of the Jackets at No.7. The Cardinals are 35-9 on the season.

Additionally, Baseball America’s newest rankings have the Jackets coming in at No.10 in the country. The Jackets are once again only behind Louisville among ACC teams with the Cardinals checking in at No.7 in Baseball America’s rankings.

In the RPI rankings, the Yellow Jackets are No.9 after their latest week of games. The Jackets this season have been strong against Quadrant 1 opponents (No.1-No.50) with a 15-9 record on the season. That includes two wins over Georgia and Louisville who are both ranked in the top-10 of the RPI as well as a win over the consensus No.1 UCLA Bruins. Along with UCLA, the Jackets are the only team in the top-10 of the RPI to have a top-10 hardest strength of schedule both for out of conference play and conference play.

The Yellow Jackets won’t play any midweek games this week with finals scheduled for during this week. The Jackets will return to the diamond this weekend, however, when the Western Carolina Catamounts come to Russ Chandler Stadium for a three-game series. The Catamounts are currently 18-21 on the season and have a midweek game against Appalachian State on Tuesday night.
