Georgia Tech football was hot on the recruiting trail each of the last two months and they’ll look to continue that as we enter the month of May.
Over the course of the last two months, the Georgia Tech football program has received 10 commitments from 2020 recruits and have soured up the recruiting rankings. As of Wednesday, May 1st, the Jackets rank 10th in the 2020 recruiting class rankings according to 247Sports.
The Jackets will look to add more recruits in the upcoming weeks and months but what recruits are the closest to possibly committing to the Jackets? Here are two prospects that Tech fans should keep in mind.
LB Romello Heights (Dublin HS – Dublin, GA)

The Dublin, Georgia native appears to be all Georgia Tech right now. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound outside linebacker could very well be the next commit for the Yellow Jackets, though he has not announced any decision date. Heights last visit to the Jackets was on April 26th for the Jackets spring game.
Last Saturday, 247Sports lead football recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong last week wrote an article titled “Georgia Tech leads for four-star LB” and while that article is premium, he also put in a crystal ball prediction for Heights to the Jackets. Additionally, Heights is 100% Georgia Tech on with all three Georgia Tech writers logging predictions for the Dublin standout to land on The Flats.
Again, there’s no set commitment date for Heights but it wouldn’t be shocking if we see the linebacker commit to the program in the upcoming weeks.
OG Tate Johnson (Callaway HS, Hoganville, GA)
Johnson for a few weeks now has been nearing a decision and a decision has yet to be made. What we do now, however, is that the Jackets are one of Johnson’s finalist and appear to be doing as much as they can to put themselves in a strong position to land his commitment.
Johnson last visited the Jackets for their spring game last week and impressed as another article by Steve Wiltfong (once again premium) is titled “Georgia Tech continues to impress Johnson”. Currently, 247Sports has Florida State as the leader for Johnson while Rivals prediction tool has the Auburn Tigers leading for the 6-foot-4, 310-pound offensive guard.
The Jackets are doing as much as they can for the three-star guard but will it be enough when it comes to him making his decision?
Now, obviously, Heights and Johnson are not the only recruits that could commit to the Jackets in the upcoming weeks but they’re certainly two of the hottest names to know and are two recruits that the Jackets are putting themselves in a great position to land. In the past few weeks, a good chunk of the Jackets commitments have been recruits that were off the public’s radar, so that’s something to watch out for as well. But, for now, these are two of the biggest names to know out there of uncommitted Georgia Tech targets.
